Smith’s Food & Drug has unveiled plans to build a sprawling 122,000-square-foot supermarket in North Las Vegas, a $35.9 million investment that marks the chain’s continued expansion in one of the fastest-growing regions of the Las Vegas Valley. The new store will be located at 900 W. Tule Springs Parkway, just north of the 215 Beltway at Revere Street, with construction scheduled for completion in 2027.
The store will become the 48th Smith’s location in Nevada, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Smith’s purchased the approximately 11-acre site for about $14.8 million in spring 2024, property records show, indicating the project has been in the planning stages for over two years before the formal announcement.
“North Las Vegas is growing and we are excited to open a new Smith’s store in the area,” Smith’s President Kenny Kimball said in a news release. The supermarket chain, owned by grocery giant The Kroger Co., is one of the largest supermarket chains in the Las Vegas Valley, with a long-established presence serving local residents.
The expansion comes as Kroger pursues growth through both new store development and acquisitions. Kroger recently announced a $1.65 billion acquisition of regional chain Giant Eagle, its first major deal since the proposed $25 billion merger with Albertsons was blocked by courts in 2024 over antitrust concerns, as Fox Business reported. That deal includes $1.25 billion in cash and approximately $400 million in assumed liabilities.
The new North Las Vegas location reflects broader growth in the area. North Las Vegas has been one of the fastest-growing cities in the region, with new residential developments driving demand for retail and grocery services. The Tule Springs area in particular has seen significant residential expansion in recent years, attracting families and workers to the northern edges of the valley.
The 122,000-square-foot footprint places the new Smith’s among the largest grocery stores in the Las Vegas Valley, offering expanded departments and services beyond what traditional supermarkets provide. The store is expected to create new jobs in both construction and retail operations, adding to Smith’s existing workforce across its Nevada locations. The project also represents a significant investment in the North Las Vegas community, contributing to the ongoing economic development of the city’s growing neighborhoods.
Competition in the Las Vegas grocery market has intensified in recent years, with Walmart, Target, and other retailers expanding their presence. Smith’s investment in a large-format store signals confidence in the continued population growth of North Las Vegas and the surrounding areas.
