Smith’s Food & Drug has unveiled plans to build a 122,000-square-foot supermarket in North Las Vegas, a $35.9 million investment scheduled for completion in 2027 that will mark the chain’s 48th location in Nevada.

The new store will be located at 900 W. Tule Springs Parkway, just north of the 215 Beltway at Revere Street, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Smith’s purchased the roughly 11-acre site for about $14.8 million in spring 2024, property records show.

“North Las Vegas is growing and we are excited to open a new Smith’s store in the area,” Smith’s President Kenny Kimball said in the release.

Smith’s, owned by grocery giant The Kroger Co., is one of the largest supermarket chains in the Las Vegas Valley. The new location will serve the rapidly expanding North Las Vegas area, which has seen significant residential and commercial development in recent years as the valley’s population growth pushes outward.

The announcement comes amid major changes in the grocery industry. Kroger, Smith’s parent company, announced on July 1 a $1.65 billion acquisition of regional chain Giant Eagle, marking its first major deal since regulators blocked its proposed $25 billion merger with Albertsons in 2024. That blocked merger had significant implications for the Las Vegas grocery market, where both Kroger (through Smith’s) and Albertsons (through Vons) operate numerous locations.

The new Smith’s store will be among the largest in the chain’s Nevada portfolio. At 122,000 square feet, it will significantly exceed the size of a typical supermarket, which generally ranges from 40,000 to 60,000 square feet, suggesting an expanded offering of groceries, pharmacy services, and potentially fuel centers.

North Las Vegas has been one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., with new housing developments driving demand for retail and grocery services. The Tule Springs area in particular has seen a wave of new home construction, creating a need for additional retail amenities.

The project is expected to create construction jobs and, once open, approximately 150-200 permanent positions, based on comparable Smith’s locations. The store will also generate tax revenue for the City of North Las Vegas.

The supermarket development reflects a broader trend of retail investment in North Las Vegas, which has been expanding its commercial footprint alongside residential growth. The city has actively recruited grocery stores and other essential retail services to serve its growing population, offering incentives and streamlining permitting processes for projects in underserved areas.

The Tule Springs area, where the new Smith’s will be located, is one of the fastest-growing residential zones in the Las Vegas Valley. New master-planned communities have added thousands of homes to the area in recent years, creating demand for grocery, healthcare, and other services. The 215 Beltway extension has improved access to the area, making it more attractive for both residential and commercial development.

Smith’s operates fuel centers at many of its locations, and the 11-acre site provides ample room for additional amenities. The store’s large footprint suggests it will include expanded departments such as a full-service pharmacy, deli, bakery, and possibly a fuel station, features that have become standard at newer Smith’s locations across the valley.
